Now that we are placing ever increasing demands on our systems,
the advice that we have been receiving about the proper installation
of coaxial cable is becoming critical:

from Communications Technology, June 1995:
"...fasteners that push up real tight
to the coax is old thinking and a
bad idea...Now is a good time to
reevaluate your choice of fasteners
and determine whether they are
actually holding the coax too tight..."

from CED, October 1995:
"Do not purchase hardware that...
requires the use of a hammer.
Hammers are the worst enemies
of drop installers; typically a
hammer will hit the cable (even
inadvertently) and result in the
impedence or structural return
loss that leads to a less than
perfect drop installation."

from Communications Technology,
August 1997
:
"...staples must never be used,
because of the likelihood of punc-
turing the cable's jacket."

from Communications Technology,
October 2000
:
"...all coax used in transmission
lines have an impedence of 75 ohms,
and all have three major parts --
center conductor, dielectric and
outer conductor...the dielectric is
somewhat more complicated in its
makeup....it must hold the center
conductor in a position centered in
the material. Unless this occurs the
characteristic impedence will not be
75 ohms...(the dielectric) provides
the internal mechanical support for
the outer conductor. Without that
support, as the cable is handled
during testing, installation, etc., the
outer conductor could '
kink,' 'buckle'
or become out of round...these
problems will cause impedence to
change at that point and the
transmission characteristics could
be hampered."

from Communications Technology,
January 2000
:
"You may have engineered the perfect
broadband system, but...all that
money you'll spend replacing drops
because of environmental or install-
ation damage will have the bean
counters at your company in a snit
in today's highly competitive market."

from Communications Technolgy,
September 1996
:
"If we are spending millions to get a
'perfect' network, then why not spend
another 10% or so to also get
perfect drops?"
